JMEC has been Engineering Consultant for design review and project approval for a 36-km elevated roadway delivered by a design-build method. The project consisted of 27-km marine causeway, 6.9-km north approach and 6.5-km south approach.  Typical spans were 40-m and 60-m long with varying widths supported on 70-m long piles.  Work included reviewing contractor's plans, design and calculations to ensure compliance with design standards and criteria for durability and serviceability, evaluating and commenting on the proposed construction sequences consisting of both span-by-span using a launching gantry and cast-in-place construction.  Constructability review included checking prestressed girders, piers, abutments and piles, and potential conflicts in post-tensioning tendons, reinforcement, and maintenance items.  Quality assurance included performing independent design check for typical spans and substructures.
